Halfway Housing |
A Bridge Between the Shelter and the Community The Halfway Home program – Woman to Woman`s flagship program - has existed for over 30 years and assists approximately 20 women and 40 children every day. To meet the need for a treatment continuum, which views a stay in a shelter as just the first step in a long process, the program offers a support system for women who have completed a stay in a shelter and are embarking on a new life. The halfway homes serve women from all the shelters in Israel. The apartments are an anchor for those who continue to deal with the long-term consequences of the trauma of violence, without financial or family support. Most women experience single parenting for the first time, while facing the challenge of joining the workforce. In the program, the women live independently - each in her own apartment. They are not required to pay rent and have a professional staff available to them daily. The program includes therapy and weekly support groups, home visits, mediation with the education system, acquiring life and work skills, continued legal aid, financial and occupational assistance, help in exercising rights, enrichment activities and more. The program is the first of its kind in Israel and is still an innovative and unique model - both in terms of the scope of the activity and in terms of the professional response. Woman to Woman is the only organization in Israel that operates a program of this size for women who have finished a stay in a shelter. In 2008, the program was awarded the Knesset Speaker`s Quality of Life Prize. |
