Helping the Children |
Breaking the Cycle of Violence Woman to Woman was one of the first organizations in Israel and in the world to make it their goal to break the cycle of violence, which is often passed from generation to generation, through a tailored response for the children. The violence to which the children were exposed left its mark on them and affected their development. Many have emotional and developmental challenges and insufficiently secure attachment to parental figures. Assisting the children and their mothers under one roof provides an opportunity to minimize some of these consequences and to lay the foundation for them to become functional and healthy adults. • The Children`s Center – an educational-therapeutic framework, which operates in the shelter, focuses on the children`s needs. A professional staff is dedicated to the children, while enabling them to continue to live with their mothers. The children receive a wide range of assistance: meals and basic care, emotional support, help with studies, a listening ear and a hug. Above all, the Children`s Center is a space that encourages children to be children: to play, laugh, cry, get angry - sometimes for the first time in their lives. • Continuing the journey with mother – during their stay in the halfway homes, the children continue to receive tailored professional support. They participate in weekly therapy sessions, receive educational and mentoring assistance as well as various enrichment activities. In addition, their mothers attend parenting training sessions and are supported by the professional staff, which aims to enable them to take a more active and significant role in the emotional well-being and development of their children and in stabilizing their family unit. |
