For over 40 years, Woman to Woman, a non-profit organization, has been a leader in the struggle against domestic violence in Israel, running one of the most comprehensive programs in the country for the safety and treatment of women and children, irrespective of age, origin, nationality or education, providing support for their children, who were raised in the shadow of violence and had been harmed by it either directly or indirectly. Our mission is to assist families to escape the cycle of abuse and rebuild their lives. To achieve this goal, we run the Jerusalem Shelter with its on-site Children’s Center, provide legal aid, operate an award-winning Halfway Housing program, as well as community-integration services for graduates of the shelter and halfway homes.
From the outset, Woman to Woman took a pioneering role in raising social awareness to the issue of family violence in Israel and has contributed greatly to public consciousness and governmental policy changes.
Since its establishment in 1982, Woman to Woman has helped many hundreds of women reclaim their lives after abuse at the hands of domestic partners. Our professional services are complemented by a group of volunteers who are involved in many facets of the organization`s activities. Every day, some 30 women and their children are helped by the Shelter and the follow-up programs – about 90 families in the course of each year. Assistance is offered without discrimination on the basis of race, nationality, religion or economic situation.
Woman to Woman is a non-profit organization under the supervision and partial funding of the Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs and is an active member in the forum of Associations Operating Shelters in Israel.
